Group Session 4: Discuss common reactions to death

The fourth session will open with the Facilitator asking the group members how they are doing today. The Facilitator will then go over homework assignment. Facilitator will discuss what they were thinking about during the homework assignment and if it was difficult or not. Facilitator will lead off the discussion with respect to death and normal reactions. Facilitator will ask group members what comes to their minds when the topic of death is mentioned. Facilitator will lead a discussion pertaining to depression and then how they define depression. Later, the Facilitator will report on the typical signs and symptoms of depression. Facilitator will ask the group members if they think they are experiencing depression at this time. Facilitator will have respective group members discuss their symptoms. Facilitator will later bring up the topic of anxiety and how some people become anxious when discussing death. The Facilitator will have group members define and discuss anxiety. Later, the Facilitator will report the typical signs and symptoms of anxiety.  The Facilitator will ask group members if they think they are experiencing anxiety at this time.  The Facilitator will ask respective group members to discuss their symptoms. Facilitator will give group members a homework assignment, which will consist of one of three questions.

1) What thoughts do you think lead to your depressive state?
2) What thoughts do you think lead to your anxious state?
3) What thoughts do you think assisted you in coping that you did not experience depression or anxiety?
