Group Session 3: Discussion and Understanding of Traumatic Experiences
How are you doing today?
Continue to work on group cohesion
Continue to work on group trust
Provide insight about traumatic experiences

The third session will open with the Facilitator asking the group members how they are doing today. The Facilitator will then go over the homework assignment from the last session.  The facilitator will discuss the difficulties of the homework assignment and the group reaction.  The facilitator will then lead a discussion pertaining to the group member's reactions from a cognitive level. After the discussion has begun, the facilitator will generalize on how people normally respond to such events. The facilitator will be illustrating the universality of their responses. The facilitator will talk about how  the first response during the trauma is to escape and leave the situation - survival is the individual's forethought. The second phase occurs when the person has been moved from immediate danger. The person is thinking about the fear and is experiencing a variety of feelings. The final stage will begin the recovery - trying to come to terms with what has happened. The Facilitator will ask the group members how they think they are coping with the incident at this time. The group will end with a homework assignment. The homework assignment will consist of the group members writing down what they are most thankful for - that they were able to survive. This assignment is to place them on the road to healing and recognizing they did survive.
